the structures may be lose one of their column due to errors in design and implementation and applying abnormal loading like an explosion or minor earthquake. damaged structure after the redistribution of forces reaches a new equilibrium. this local damage can be expanded under earthquake loading and caused overall collapse. the aim of this study is to investigate retrofitting of damaged structures to prevent emergence of the phenomenon of progressive collapse under earthquake loading. for this purpose, mrf steel frames that have been designed based on seismic codes are considered. to assess the progressive collapse potential of structures and impact of retrofitting to prevent damage, incremental dynamic analysis is carried out. the results show retrofitting of damaged structures has large effect on decrease in potential of progressive collapse.
